Week 2 - Homework

If you wanted to see the source code of your web page, how would you do that in Dreamweaver?

You can view the source code for the current document in several ways: you can display it in the Document window by enabling Code view, you can split the Document window to display both the page and its associated code, or you can work in the Code inspector, a separate coding window. The Code inspector works just like Code view; you can think of it as a detachable Code view for the current document.

1. View code in the Document window - select VIEW > Code

2. Code and edit a page simultaneously in the Document window - select View > Code and Design

3. View code in a separate window with the code inspector - select Select Window > Code Inspector

Where do you define a workspace in Dreamweaver?

To define a workspace in Dreamweaver you can use the Workspace Layout option on the Window menu. You can also use the Workspace menu button.

Once you have a layout of your own that you'd like to keep as a custom workspace, click the Workspace menu when you have that layout in use and select New Workspace.

What operating system are you on (Windows or Mac)? Please write out the keyboard shortcuts (specific to your system) for the following functions:

 I am on Windows.

Save a document  CTRL+S

Preview document in secondary browser SHIFT+F12

Check spelling SHIFT+F7

View page properties CTRL+J

When working on a new site, what is the first thing you should do to help organize your files?

The first thing is that you need to store all of your site’s resources in one main folder on your hard drive and identify it in Dreamweaver to ensure that the links you set on your computer will work when your site is uploaded to a server. That’s because all of the elements of your site must remain in the same relative location on the Web server as they are on your hard drive for your links to work properly.

The FILES PANEL is great for organizing all of the files on the site.

Post a link to your hand-coded web page.
